The International ERCO Summer Lighting Workshop from the 17th – 20th of July 2012 will also include lighting design exercises and an excursion to exemplary projects for museum and shop lighting, thus ensuring the theoretical knowledge of lighting design can be directly related to practical applications.

A list of venues for further trips gives students impulses for making their own visits to interesting projects for architecture and lighting in the Ruhr-valley region after the Lighting Workshop has finished.

Interested students can register themselves individually for the International Summer Lighting Workshop in English. The course fees are 50 euro. If required, ERCO would assist with board and lodgings. Students should make their own travel arrangements. For information and registration please have a look at: www.erco.com/seminars.

ERCO GmbH, Lüdenscheid, is one of the leading companies in the luminaire industry. The family business founded in 1934 now operates with over 60 subsidiaries, branches and agencies all around the world. Working together with internationally renowned designers, lighting engineers and architects, ERCO develops hardware and software for all areas of architectural lighting: luminaires and lighting systems for indoor and outdoor areas, as well as lighting control and software for scenographic lighting applications. In keeping with the corporate philosophy of "Light not luminaires," lighting equipment is not offered simply as furnishing for rooms, but rather luminaries are offered as instruments of lighting design. Many demanding architectural projects are illuminated using ERCO equipment, including the Berlin Reichstag, the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Highlights:

In a four-day lighting seminar, experienced architects and lighting designers will be providing seminar participants with well-founded knowledge on lighting design and the perception of light; on lamps – e.g. economical light sources such as LED; and on architectural, accent and ambient lighting. The ERCO Light Factory has an extensive range of demonstration tools, special indoor facilities and outdoor grounds at its disposal for studying how diverse lighting effects actually work in practice. The aims of the workshop include not only to provide teaching on lighting technology and on the fundamentals of perception, but also to increase students’ competence in lighting design so that in their studies they will be able to develop and fine-tune their designs following lighting design criteria. In the final analysis, it is the combination of design intelligence and high-quality lighting tools that helps implement sophisticated lighting solutions and efficient visual comfort for the users.
