What is the difference between a competition, conference, seminar, and a summer course?
Depending on who you ask, the definitions can differ, but here at StudentEvents.com we define them as follows:
• Competition (AKA Challenge, Contest): Any event where an individual or team competes for a prize where skill is the main predictor of the winner.
• Conference (AKA Symposium, Summit): An event in which individuals participate in a meeting where the main purpose is to mingle, network, listen to presentations or gain knowledge.
• Seminar: An event conducted by a single entity, usually a firm, that focuses on a very specific domain of knowledge. Seminars usually consist of various related modules that work together to form one big picture. In contrast to conferences, the program in a seminar tends to be more rigid and has to be followed according to how the organizing entity intended it.
• Summer Course: An event where universities and colleges from around the world open certain courses to students enrolled at other universities. Summer courses are a great way to obtain credit for classes to accelerate progress toward a degree or in order to lessen the load of courses during the regular school year. In contrast to seminars, the length of the program tends to be weeks or months, as opposed to a one-time event.

Finding Events
How can I share events with my friends? It's easy to share and recommend events to your friends. Each event has its own unique link that you can always copy and paste from your browser. Moreover, you can share any event by using the social media buttons integrated all over the website. We suggest using our one-click Facebook Recommend button located at the top of each event's description.

Does StudentEvents.com only list student-specific events?
No. We take the point-of-view of students and will list any event that we think students would like to participate in. Our philosophy is to find cool, academic- or career-relevant events that are open to students around the world. We do have a rule here, though, that if it's not something we would have wanted to do as a student, we're not going to post it - bye, bye 2nd annual congress on *insert your least favourite class here*.
Plus, most of the photography events, for example, are open to anyone with a digital camera or even a camera phone. There's something for everyone, no matter what you're studying.
